CS(Class Secretary) Recommendation

The class will conduct a national championship each year within the months of September, October or November. The event will be invitational and offered to the most competitive and experienced members through processes listed below. The invitation will be tendered to about 37 competitors and their boat throughout the US and international interests. A three fleet Equal Opportunity Racing System (EORS) will be the program over three and a half (3-1/2) days at a suitable venue location in consideration to the population of the class. The event program will begin with registration, measurements and seeding races on Wednesday and fleet racing on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Match racing will not be offered under this program at this time unless overruled by the class.

The invitation process will be as follows by the class administration:

  • The chevron winners for the last three (3) NCR events.

  • The top ten (10) positions from the last NCR.

  • The chevron winners for RCR (Regional Class Regatta) events held since the last NCR up to 60 days before the current NCR. Those after this time will be carried over to the next annual NCR.

  • The top RCR position by a regional member.

  • The winners of the current three series events.

  • The top five at the Champions Regatta.

  • The winners of events on the national schedule.

  • Duplications in the above will not be filled in but be considered in the process below. This will also apply to invitations declined.

  • The CS will hold three (3) national provisional slots for invitation.

  • The CS will hold five (5) international provisional slots for invitation.

  • The remaining positions will be invited based on participation and performance in the above categories.

  • The CS will solicit an open request for entries based on these considerations, past and present luminaries and circumstances special to the class.

  • The NCR competitor’s roster will be completed and posted at least 60 days before the scheduled event.

The NCR following will hopefully be announced at the current event. RCR events are to be requested from the CS before December 15 of the year previous to the national sailing schedule. January will be a stand down month for the schedule. Regions 5 and 6 may post one day events on the national schedule and request a RCR based on the following until participation and traveling interests warrant other considerations:

  • They will be posted on the national schedule and hence, an invitation to all comers.

  • Single fleet racing will complete at least Twelve (12) races in a regatta of at least eight (8) boats.

  • Multiple fleet racing (more than 14 total regatta entries) will complete at least eight (8) races.

  • Should event projections not show meeting these completed races, the standard two-day (1-1/2 day) format will be used to accomplish these minimums of competition.

Note: Based on this selection program using 2004 data and assuming that Regions 4, 5 and 6 would to provide their representatives, a list of 22 competitors resolved after duplications. The CS would query the 22 for those that would accept the invitation. This would then allow the CS to consider if provisional slots were warranted and solicit to the class to fill the remaining slots for a 37 boat fleet. The CS would review those that respond within the program above and invite accordingly to fill the fleet, which could be some with no record.
