Friday evening practice brought out only two hardy
skippers to brave the 50 degree temps, and a fine misty
rain. But despite the poor weather for the skippers,
the wind was strong and consistent making the run up the
entire lake into the course, bringing with it 6" seas.
Saturday morning brought bright sunny skies and temps
peaking in the mid 70's for the modest fleet of 6
skippers. Due to the small fleet size the decision was
made to run a Match racing double elimination series as
well as Fleet. Between the first two rounds of Match
racing we managed to get off 11 Fleet races. Harry
Mote, showed his sailing skills with 7 bullets, despite
the sometimes tricky winds (from the north but also
running up the lake from the east, converging at various
spots on the course).
Saturday Evenings party at Chuck Aiken's home was
much enjoyed.
Sunday brought a mostly cloudy sky with slightly
better winds and an additional skipper. A course layout
change benefited most everyone. Scott Todd fell victim
to a broken rudder linkage forcing him to concede the
rematch with Hal from the first round of Match racing.
Hal Slentz-Whalen was very strong on Sunday after fixing
his perpetually leaking boat taking 3 firsts from the 5
fleet races and winning the loser's bracket to take a
shot at hot Harry Mote in the Match Finals. Harry came
out slightly ahead and took the Match title as well as
the Fleet title.
